The Crown

Local Pub / Restaurant

The Crown at Wells & Anton's Bistro is a 15th century, Grade II listed coaching inn. It is in the heart of the historic City of Wells, Somerset; a stone’s throw from Wells Cathedral and The Bishop’s Palace.

The Crown is believed to have been built around 1450, originally as houses, commissioned by the then Bishop Beckynton. Later on The Penn Bar was divided into two buildings providing a bar for The Crown coaching inn and a separate inn called The Royal Oak.

Anton's Bistro is named after a local well-known cartoonist whose work regularly appeared in Punch magazine. Many of Anton's original drawings are on the walls of our restaurant. There is more information about the artist above the fireplace in the front of the restaurant.
We serve lunch and dinner, seven days a week in Anton's Bistro and lounge. Choose from an excellent variety of mouth-watering dishes, extremely tempting desserts, complemented by our interesting wine list.
We are vegetarian and child-friendly and happy to accept bookings for private parties/business functions.
We are passionate about food and our ethos is to source good, local produce to provide diners with a fabulous meal at a reasonable price.
